Okay, y’all, I’m going to have to really steel my wool for this post.

Here’s my living room/front room:

Ugh.  I know.  Sad, right? I didn’t even try to make it look better, just took the pictures literally five minutes ago (hence the toddler having his breakfast in the high chair).

I’m going to now offer my excuses:  We moved into this house one month before I found out we were expecting JB, at which point any major changes to the house got put on hold.  After all, I spent the entire first months of my pregnancy either asleep or weeping over things like Subway not having chicken salad (hormones!  Whee!), and the remaining months working myself to a nubbin so I’d have tons of leave at work and a freezer stocked with food.  Then JB came and I descended into those sleepless, endless months of nursing and recovering from my c-section and the shock of JB’s surgery and of course, more weeping.

But JB is now almost two, and since I spend the vast majority of my time in this house as a stay-at-home mom, I’d like it to look…nicer.  More welcoming, more colorful.  Like a happy place to hang out and have fun.

So, in the upcoming weeks/months, I’m going to be working on what I’m calling “The Slow and Steady.”  I’d like to gradually make the living areas of our house reflect my style and what I value.  The plan is to do things in a budget-friendly way because I like a bargain, and end up with a room that makes me feel really happy in it.

I’ve started a little pinboard to collect inspiration as I go along. I’m drawn to vintage, farmhouse-y, slightly modern, colorful, fresh. If you see any projects or inspiration out there that you think I should check out, let me know!

Because clearly? I need all the help I can get.
